One of the things that I will be following closely this election is the use of social media, especially Twitter, by MPs, media and commentators to circulate rumours, opinion and speculation. Normally reporters need to be able to back up up what they report with proof and quotes.
However, social media offers the ability for them to report rumours and speculation. John Key has been dropping hints that he will be announcing the election date early in the year. Laura McQuillan has been hearing rumours that that announcement will come today.
She has also gone out on a limb and mentioned the date she suspects it will be.
I suggest you go and read all the debate that is going on on that thread. It makes for an interesting read.
I suspect we will see more examples of this happening in the next few months, leading up to the election.
