Peter Dunne is the leader of United Future, he has also just been reappointed as a Minister. His portfolios are Minister of Internal Affairs, Associate Minister of Health and Associate Minister of Conservation. Peter is MP for Ohariu, in Northern Wellington. Peter obviously spends a lot of time reading news and opinion online. He tweets and retweets a lot of links to various articles, both from NZ and from over seas. But the thing that stands out for me is the fact that Peter doesn’t take himself too seriously, take his profile photo on twitter as an example. How many ministers in other countries would have a photo like that as their profile photo?
Peter uses twitter to keep his followers up to date on what he is up to, and he has a very good grasp of how to use twitter, including mentioning other MPs/people involved in what he is up to. He also uses a good number of photos.
Like all of the other MPs I have written about so far, Peter uses twitter to help convey an element of his own personality. Firstly the fact that he, I assume, follows John Cleese says a lot about it. As does the fact that he felt able to retweet something from John Cleese.
This is reinforced by his ability to show a sense of humor and make a few well pointed comments at his opponents.
Peter also breaks up his feed of serious articles and comments with things like retweets of beautiful images like this, or interesting facts from accounts like Uber Facts.
The other thing that comes across from Peter’s tweets, and I have not been able to confirm this yet, is that he speaks/reads French, as there are a number of retweets from French language sources.
Over all Peter uses twitter very well. The only bit of advice I would offer would be to increase the number of retweets from local businesses/organisations/events in his electorate, to help them raise their profile to a winder audience. I say this as I was not able to see anything like this in the last twoweeks of tweets.
