#inspiredbyU

The current National Government have started pushing a website called inspiredly. It is aimed at getting people to talk about the teachers that inspired them at school. We all have them, that one teacher we can remember from school who really stood out from the rest. So the government’s aim is commendable.

However, the hashtag that has been started to go with it, #inspiredbyU, has drifted off subject. Instead of being positive stories about how teachers inspired them, people are sharing lots of stories about their bad experiences with the education system. inspired by u 2inspired by u 3

These are just a few examples of the sorts of comments people are making. It lead Graeme Edgeler to ask the following:

As I said above, the aim of this project is commendable. However it shows that once things get going on social media, it is impossible to control how they will turn out. Can political parties or the government run the risk of a social media campaign turning negative? I don’t think this hashtag is going that bad, it is just people talking about their experiences. But in the future with another campaign things could go a lot differently.
